4 years earlier…
Two women climbed the steps of the big house. One with short strawberry blond hair, elfish features and sparkling blue eyes. The other, taller, her skin creamy and a cascade of curls falling to her shoulders. The later knocked on the door. A pudgy man wearing a tiger-printed shirt opened the door.
-Oh. You two. I thought I’d gotten rid of you 12 years ago.
-When we were both sweet, innocent little angels, yes. The blond agreed.
-Watch it Clara Settle.
-Actually it’s Foster now. The woman lifted her left hand and wiggled her fingers.
-Got married. Two beautiful girls. Is Chiron there?
-Where else would he be, its eleven o’clock at night if you haven’t noticed.
-Look, we’ve had a long trip and both of us need to get back soon, can you please just get Chiron? The tallest said.
-Watch your tongue Simone. Always thought you’d look nice as a shrub. The man warned.
-Mr D. Somebody said.
-Good you’re here. I won’t have to suffer these two little loud-mouths longer. He said before stalking off. A centaur took his place.
-Come in, Clare, Sienna. He said. They sat down at a table, where a pack of cards was waiting for the next day.
-So, what brings you here? He asked.
-Children. Sienna said.
-Yes, I do know about Liam, he’s what, 3 now?
-Yes, but that’s not entirely it. Clare has two daughters too. Sienna said.
-My husband is mortal, but my daughter Jessie sees threw the mist. She can see monsters all around us and isn’t shy to say so. I think she has a scent as well. A Satyr approached me the other day and told me that she would probably develop one.
-How nice of him. We could arrange for her to come to camp for a summer, when she’s older. Learn to fight in case of emergencies, but I think she’ll be fine with a once-every-two-years routine. Chiron said.
-I agree. When she’s 12 maybe? That’s when monsters start attacking.
-Yes. You live in Armpit, Nevada right? I suggest you send her to Adonis elementary, your other daughter too while you’re at it. The school has a lot of demigods and strong-seers. We have 5 satyrs presently at the school actually. He said.
-Thank you for the advice. Clare said.
-Why would both of you take such a long trip just to do what an iris-message could arrange? Leaving two half-demigods and a demigod to a mortal man isn’t the wisest decision. Chiron said.
-We know, but, well… Si will explain in private.
-In private?
-If you look out the window you will observe two of my half brothers who have failed to stay in the cabin. He peaked over his shoulder.
-The Stolls probably. Clare, do you mind..?
-Not at all. She said getting up.
-And don’t do anything! Don’t think I’ve forgotten you Clare Foster! Chiron called as she stepped out of the front door, smiling.
As quiet as a cat she made her way behind the two boys.
-I hope you’re better thieves then spies, or else you might get vaporised. She said. The two boys jumped and turned to face her.
-How did you..?
-Thieves recognise their environments before stepping in a room. Never forget that.
-Hey, for the record I’m the kid that that managed to smuggle all the coffee this place has, the harpies were on a rampage! The tall one said.
-Lame. Ever tried stealing all the diet coke? They gasped.
-Oh my gods that was you?
-Clare Foster, formally Settle. You must be Connor, and you’re Travis. Charmed, I’m your oldest sister alive and I just busted you, so get going.
-We can find the cabin on our- never mind. Travis said letting his sister lead him back to his cabin.
