The Hunger Games Question

Why do you guys think Madge is an important role to have in the movie?

I've only read the first book, so I can't really say and I've seen quite a fuss about Madge not being in the movie. I was just wondering what your thoughts were on this. Does she become an important role throughout the books that she's a must have in the movies?
Thanks =)

Well first off, I like having Madge in the story because she's Katniss' only girlfriend. It annoys me that they took her out because it's a sign they're going to be focusing more on the love triangle thing, than showing how Katniss is a real girl. In almost every love triangle story I've seen where a book was converted into a movie, they take out the main girl's best girlfriend. It makes it so her whole world is the boys she’s obsessed with and her family, which isn't true in real life. Secondly, they completely destroyed the entire pin story arch by taking her out. The pin originally belonged to Madge’s Aunt, who played in the Hunger Games with Haymitch. Her Aunt died, which is why her mother always has headaches. You see move of Madge in the second book. It’s also REALLY out of character for Katniss to buy the pin herself, since it’s gold. Katniss would never waste that kind of money when it could be used toward food. Lastly, I think Madge is good for Katniss. They have a sweet relationship, and I thought Madge giving her the pin was a sign of how much people care about her without her realizing. I think Madge and Katniss are similar, and you really see how nice Madge is in the second book.

I've read the Hunger Games last year and I've read to many books after that, so I don't remember all the details. but anyway, here's what I think, aside from being Katniss' only girl friend, Madge is also the one who gave katniss the Mockingjay pin ryt? and I think that's what makes her role important, correct me if i'm wrong, but the pin was part of the reason why Katniss became popular, I know her skills were impressive but she was named after her pin and that made her identity both during and after the games. So that's it, for me, Madge is important that way.

That's what I thought. It makes sense. but since I hadn't read the other books I thought maybe Madge had become something more throughout the last two books. =)

I don't really agree with that. I don't think Katniss would accept a gift she picked out for her sister. She'd want Prim to keep so she could stay safe while she was away.

But maybe if Katniss realized Prim really wanted her to take it, she would.

The real question is...why WOULDN'T Madge be in the movie? I mean...she is the one who GAVE Katniss the Mockingjay pin. I mean, that pin is crucial to the storyline!! And it would not mean the same to katniss is she just BOUGHT it at a store or something!! And, why would a store even carry that? And...where would she get the money?? It would just make more sense to have Madge in the movie rather than trying to fix all the problems that present themselves when Madge is taken out. She does a LOT of small things that make a world of difference in the book. I don't see hiw they will make this work now. OMG I AM SOOO MAD!!!
