The Hunger Games Question

Is Katniss a good person?

I haven't read all the Hunger Games, but I managed to read some before my mom found out (shh, she doesn't want me to read until she does), and it seems to me that Katniss is a surly, headstrong, angry person to everyone except Gale and her sister. Are they the only onse she really cares about? What about everyone else? Doesn't she care about Peeta? Remember, it's only for The Hunger Games, not the other two books in the trilogy. I need an analysis to see whether Katniss has good character.

I won't lie, there were moments where I got fed up with her. Overall though, I believe that she is a good person. I think that she has become cold from the world she lives in, and from having to become the provider for her family at the age of 11. I also think that she doesnt want to get too close to anyone because she knows that they are all living day to day and anyone could die at any moment even outside of the hunger games. However, I do see a protective instinct for her family, Rue, Peeta, and Gale. As for how she feels about Peeta on a deeper level, I wont ruin it for you, but lets just say that it takes a while for her to sort her head and her heart out.

That is totally a question of opinion. But I think, like every person, Katniss has her ups and definitely her downs. it is difficult to judge her, especially in her situation. Being in the Hunger Games two times, being forced into marriage, being hated by the government. To be honest, I wouldn't be too jolly if all that was weighing on my shoulders. So, I think she would be a better person than we see in the books if all those things were lingering above her every moment.
