The Hunger Games Question

Would you have voted for the capitol kids to have their own hunger games?

Sorry if this has been asked before.
Personally, I would have voted no. I think they are trying to use two wrongs to make a right. If they are going to do that, I think they should have made the parents be in the hunger games and not the kids since the kids had nothing to do with it.

No. I mean, Katniss might have been grieving and all, but that didn't give her a right to ruin everyone else's lives. What if a Capitol girl lost her younger sister? They didn't know any better. I was seriously ticked off at her when she voted yes.

I understand that the Capital kids didn't know any better, but let's face it, they hadn't suffered or had been scared their whole lives to enter the hunger games instead their job was to create them or to be apart of the affulient society in the Capital. I think Katniss made the right choice because she wanted the children of the Capital to understand how the 12 Districts had felt for 75 years. She wanted the Capital kids to feel their pain and to understand why the districts were rebelling against them.

No. They're products of their upbringing. I also do not believe in an 'eye for an eye' mentality. As Gandhi said 'an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind'.

Frankly, I found it rather hypocritical of Katniss (no, I do not believe she was voting on a chance to kill Coin; Snow would've been publicly assassinated either way) to fight for all of these lives and whine when they suggest the explosion at the Nut because of the innocent people in there, to then vote for a blood bath of another group of innocents.

Capitol children are bred to buy into the entertainment aspect of the Games, and with the way the contestants are made to present themselves in interviews and the like, I'm not surprised they take to it so easily.

If it was a product of grief, was Katniss not thinking of Prim? How Prim died attending to Capitol children and how, more than anything, she believed in protecting life, no matter how wretched or loathed?

That is a good point. Putting it that way,l I find it interesting that Annie was able to look past revenge and vote the way that she felt that Finnick would have voted, where Katniss wanted to make the capitol feel the pain that she felt. It also makes me realize that there are similiarities between Annie and Peeta, because, even if she is a little insane, I think that Annie has an innocence that most of the victors don't have.

She voted yes to lull Coin into a false sense of security...to make it seem that she was totally broken, fooled by Coin's bombing, and focused only on getting revenge against Snow--not getting in Coin's way...

Ahh......that is one reason I like discussing good books with fellow fans; many times other people think of things I didn't/wouldn't have, or see them another way...

Of course I would!! Are you kidding? Think about it. The Capitol is in charge, yes, but is it really fair to give an advantage to kids who happen to live in a certain city? No. What if no one who lived in Washington DC had to work. What if all those people were pampered and the rest of us were starving and overworked. This is like the Capitol and districts in the Hunger Games. Of course, all of us would want the people in Washington DC to work just as hard as we do. Im sure this is how the people of the districts in Panem feel. So, yes, I would vote to have Capitol children go though the same hardships as every other child in the nation.

I feel mixed about this question. I would personally say no, nobody deserves to go through that at all and Katniss should be the first to know that. She should know that she is basically killing the children based on their parents actions. And I guess you could say the same for Capitol, though. Think about it. They choose ages 12-18. None of these ages would have anything to do with the Dark Days. They are making the parents suffer for what they had done in the past. So then I see where Katniss made her point. She wanted the adults to suffer, she wanted to avenge Prim's death. So many parents had to watch their children die in the Hunger Games, why not have the Capitol feel the same pain? What better way of doing it than killing what caused Prim's death? I know this is kinda far-fetched, but hear me out. I know the rebels dropped the bombs. But they dropped the bombs for good reasons. They didnt know that Prim was in the crowd. And again, I know that they knew they were risking others lifes aswell. But her little sister just died trying to save the enemy. So now Katniss thinks the "enemy" doesnt deserve to live after they recieved help they didnt deserve. I can totally see why she thinks that. But also, everyone knows that isnt what Prim would have wanted. Prim wouldnt hurt a fly, so this would be a far strech. So I see both sides, and they both have good reasons, but i dont agree or disagree. I'm Switzerland on this topic!!

I think that's a very thoughtful, partly comprehensive (because some people here appear to be on the warpath xD), and intelligent response. :)

I think something should have been done to the higher officials of the Capitol, but not the children. It wasn't the kids' fault.

Absolutely and positively NO. I would never wish that sick and twisted "game" on anyone. Even if the Capitol may deserve it, it's just wrong and inhumane.

Absolutely not. I agree with your mentality, two wrongs do not make a right. I know Katniss and the others from the Districts suffered a lot from the Games. But think of it this way: if they made the Capitol kids participate, it would turn into a never ending cycle of revenge. They would have accomplished nothing other than eternal pain and suffering, you would think that after all of that, they'd want a peaceful world...

in all truth if i was katniss or anyone who had played or a family member gone because of it yes no doubt. the parents at the capitol and the kids saw no problem with district children dying. the parents and kids enjoyed watching their entertainment every year. they should have spoken up if they didn't like it otherwise it's just as much their fault.
have you heard that if you see bullying you tell someone. they may be in charge but if enough citizens wanted they could have stopped it but no they didnt. they let the innocent people suffer and that makes them in the wrong.
