The Hunger Games Question

(movie and book spoiler!)

SENECA CRANE
well, at the start of catching fire president snow visits katniss and tells her that Seneca crane was executed.
and
In the movie, Seneca Crane walks into that room at the end which contains only a bowl of Nightlock berries. did anyone else except me get that he has to kill himself by eating them. I was horrified and pretty much yelled
'that's sick!'
in the middle of the cinema, but no one else seemed to understand that I seemed to be the only one who had a reaction to president snow's psychotic, evil, repusively sick mind except me and my friend
(though i don't know what everyone else thought, i mean, seriously people!, he wouldnt be sent into a room to just 'look' at some berries would he?!).
did any of you understand that that was what was going on or was it just us?

My family told me it didn't make any sense that he just walked into the room to, as you said, LOOK at the berries. They were confused but at the same time I knew EXACTLY what was going on.

mainly on Roman mythology. but Greek also. you should read the books they are far more detailed than the film though the film was fairly accurate, however they did omit many of the jokey scenes because they didn't want it to become a comedy the messages behind it are too important to be overlooked. any questions you have about the film (or books when you read them) then i will most likely know the answer, i've seen the film a couple of times and have read and re-read the books over and over, 'i just love them' :)

:) i suppose you would only know he died if you'd read the second book, but still, you'd think some other people would have been able to work out that seneca crane wasnt just put in a room with a bowl of night lock berries for fun :)

i get what you mean about him being a 'nice villain' . Seneca Crane is sort of likeable though partly because of his amazing beard (which shall go down in history) but you have to remember that he is (sorry, WAS) Snow's right hand mad, so to speak, and you can't really call him 'nice'. and after the scene showing him getting the mutts ready and he says 'Excellent', well, that one word just sounded a bit creepy and definitely villainous, that's where we see that he is in fact no better than any of the other capitol citizens(with the exception of Cinna)

before we watched the film, my friend and i suspected that they would show senecas death because otherwise poeple might forget by the next film if they only mentioned it like they do in the second book when Snow visits Katniss. and so when he was escorted to the room my friend and i looked at each other as if to say 'yup, he's dead'

I think they definitely should have made it clearer to the audience, though, since so many haven't read the books. It's a lot easier to see how cruel Snow is in the book since there's more time to cover it, but he was just barely in the film. They could have added a little note beside the berries with Snow's signature just to clarify what was going on.

Yeah, I understand. His mistake was letting them both win, instead of no victor. He made the Capitol seem weak with Katniss's act of rebellion. He was forced to kill himself. By locking the door and the only food was the nightlock berries, he could choose to die of starvation or eat the berries and have a quicker death. Either way, he was going to die. This way, the mistake would never happen again, but of course in Mockingjay (MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!) Katniss and others take down the Capitol and the Hunger Games never happen again. :)
