Yes definatly read the books. I'm up to my second one Catching Fire, omg.... You've got to read them. Read the review on the books ask friends or family. But just to tell you thank God that the books are less gory than the actual movie.
Try reading the books. You'll literally get addicted.... Like me. =)

I'm not obsessed with them, but they're well written. The descriptions are vivid, the characters are good, and the plot is a maze of complications and brilliant ideas. It's a spider web weaving of ideas, conspiracies, and puzzle pieces. Everything in the story happens for a reason.
So yes, you should read them.

It all depends on your taste.
Honestly, I didn't particularly enjoy these books. They were good but not great. For one thing it seems to stretch after the second book, the books are not long enough to challenge you, and it's another futuristic book that the current literary audience is obsessed with. Of course there is another opinion to think of, the series is an excellent conversation topic, the series gives you a picture of what death really means, and there's a movie. I hope you take this into consideration compared to everyone else's answers.
